What is Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests.
Toastmasters International includes more than 199,000 men and women in more than 9,300 clubs in more than 70 countries.
At Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical Toastmasters club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet once every two weeks for about an hour and a half. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
Who are we?

While working in the USA, our past president, John Cox, was so impressed by the potential of Toastmasters for leadership and management training that he resolved to promote Toastmasters on his return to UK.
Finding that the nearest clubs were over 60 miles distant, he set up East Midlands Speakers Club as a local chapter of Toastmasters International. We chartered in June 2008. Here we are at our Charter Dinner, 'dressing to impress!'
Currently, we are the only Toastmasters club in the East Midlands, serving Nottingham, Leicester and Derby.
East Midlands Speakers achieved President's Distinguished Club status in its first year of chartership and also the Smedley Award for signing up five new members between August 1st and September 30th 2009.
